Yesterday Rachel Reeves dropped her first full Budget… and the press acted like she’d personally nationalised Harrods, raised the top tax rate to 95%, handed out free Teslas to benefit claimants and announced the People’s Republic of Great Britain.

In reality?
A bit of redistribution here, a stealth tax freeze there, a mansion-tax-that’s-barely-a-mansion-tax, a nudge to pensions, a slap on milkshakes, and an accidental OBR leak that would’ve ended a Tory chancellor’s career before lunchtime.

But oh boy — the newspapers reacted like Lenin burst out of Reeves’ red briefcase and declared Communism by teatime.
