(22 Nov 2019) Britain's Prince Andrew is facing mounting pressure to provide information to US law enforcement agencies and to lawyers who are investigating crimes committed by American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.
Lawyers for Epstein's victims believe the 59-year-old prince may have valuable information about the late financier's sex offences.
When Epstein died in August, he was facing charges of trafficking in underage girls who provided sexual favours to the powerful men visiting his luxury properties in the Caribbean, and elsewhere.
Andrew stepped down from his royal duties on Wednesday with the approval of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
It followed an interview with the BBC during which he tried to justify his well-documented ties to Epstein.
US attorney Gloria Allred, who represents some of the women abused by Epstein, said Thursday that Andrew should contact American authorities "without conditions and without delay."
Andrew has said he was willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required but has not volunteered to provide evidence.
It is not clear if US authorities are investigating Andrew for any possible wrongdoing.
Many of the court papers related to the Epstein case are still sealed and unavailable to the public.
Andrew still may face legal questioning about allegations that he had sex with Giuffre, an exchange provided by Epstein, when she was just 17.
The prince denies the charge while she insists is true.
British legal experts are divided over whether Andrew enjoys immunity from prosecution as a senior British royal.
Giuffre has also said she had sex with prominent lawyer Alan Dershowitz.
Dershowitz said he has travel records, credit card statements and phone records proving he was never in places when Giuffre claims to have had sex with him.
He claims to have never met Giuffre and is suing her for defamation in Manhattan federal court.
"Nobody should believe a single word this woman ever says. She has a long history of making up false stories about famous people for money. She has no credibility. Zero about anybody," said Dershowitz.
Dershowitz defended Epstein in his 2008 case for soliciting a minor for prostitution in Florida.
He says he cut his relationship with him after that case.
"The case was over and our relationship ended and that's not true of Prince Andrew. He maintained a relationship even after it was clear that Epstein had done terrible things," said Dershowitz.
