The History of the Postal Service in Hong Kong - PART 1

Описание к видео The History of the Postal Service in Hong Kong - PART 1

Join me as I take on my first ever epic challenge here on COASTY EXPLORES. From sunrise to sunset, the challenge is to visit every pre Queen Elizabeth II post box in Hong Hong. Across four islands, the Kowloon peninsula and up into the New Territories, I shall endeavour to find and evidence the history behind these British era boxes. I'll also find out about the rich history of the Imperial Chinese postal system and learn more about how mail traversed the globe in the 19th and 20th century.

I asked my students at school to come up with some questions related to this topic which I attempt to answer in this three-part series.

These include:
Was the Chinese postal system the first and largest in the world?
When did Britain first use post boxes?
Are British post boxes all red or are there any other colours?
When did the official postal system begin in Hong Kong?
How long did mail take to go from Hong Kong to Europe?
Did Hong Kong stamps have the monarch's head on them?
Was there a postal system during WW2 in Hong Kong?
How has the Hong Kong postal system changed since being returned to the motherland in 1997?
