Start to season 2001/02 was beginning of a new era in slalom, young agile newcomers really managed to make a huge progress in a short period of time. In first two slaloms of the season in Aspen podium was taken by guys with bib 64, 54 and 36 and in Madonna di Campiglio story was quite similar. Bibs 25, 17 and 27 took the podium. American Bode Miller managed to win his first World Cup slalom race, winning only a day after his first win ever in Val d'Isere, France where he had won a giantslalom. Miller won ahead of Italian Giorgio Rocca and Tom Stiansen of Norway
