Bangladesh Rice Research Institute is the winner in Best Agricultural Organization in Research & Innovation category of 4th Agrow Award. Established in 1970 at Joydebpur, BRRI’s vision is development of rice varieties and production technologies for sustainable food security of country’s ever growing population.
BRRI is a major component of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) of Bangladesh. The institute operates with 19 research divisions, 3 support service divisions and 8 sections, with a total manpower of 681 among them 249 are scientists. About one third of the scientists are highly trained professionals with MS and Ph. D. degrees. BRRI has so far developed 86 modern high yielding varieties: 80 inbred and 6 hybrids. In addition to that, BRRI has developed more than 60 rice production technologies and 36 farm machineries.
Alone in 2016, they have also innovated 5 high yielding varieties and 1 hybrid variety. They have also conducted 841 research activities and imparted training to 5200 personnel in the same year.
