Yoginis | Who they are and why to be cautious

Описание к видео Yoginis | Who they are and why to be cautious

Namaste! I'm Dr. Robert, and today I'm exploring the fascinating and powerful world of yoginis.

While the term "yogini" is often used to describe a female yoga practitioner, the true yoginis are a unique class of deities worshipped extensively between 700 AD and 1200 AD. These deities are closely associated with the Shakti tradition and are often depicted in circular, open-to-the-sky temples.

The yoginis, typically numbering 64, represent the full range of Shakti in the universe. Each yogini temple features different sets of these goddesses, with the best-preserved temple located at Hirapur, India. However, yoginis are not to be approached lightly; they are powerful, liminal beings who require great reverence and caution in worship.

For more on this intriguing topic, I recommend the books "Yogini Cult and Temples" by Vidya Dehejia and "Kiss of the Yogini" by David Gordon White.
