Most club golfers are familiar with playing stroke play in the form of stableford or par while match play is also a well-known format. A lesser known playing format is 'foursomes' which involves two golf partners competing as a side by playing one ball in alternating order on each hole. In simple terms, one golfer tees off and the other golfers hits the next shot and so on.

In foursomes, one golfer chooses to tee off on the odd holes (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17) and the other golfer tees off on the even holes. Penalty strokes don't disrupt the playing order.
