Reimagining democracy: Becoming citizens of place and planet

Описание к видео Reimagining democracy: Becoming citizens of place and planet

Climate policy has become a political flash point in nations around the world, with politicians and major vested interests fuelling divisive debates that undermine climate action. Join us for a lively discussion about why our democratic spaces struggle to cope with long term issues about our environment, and to hear about bright spots around the world showing us how this can be done well through growing citizen engagement.

This event was broadcast on 5 August 2024 and is the first event in our "Regenerating our World" discussion series.

About the series:
Regenerating our world is a discussion series exploring the issues that underpin our transition to a just, sustainable future – from what it means to be an active “citizen” of place and planet, to how we create thriving and abundant food-systems now and into the future. This series is a collaboration between RSA Oceania, the RSA Sustainability Network and IdeaSpies.

Speakers:

Jane Davidson is the Chair of Wales Net Zero 2035 and the author of #futuregen: Lessons from a Small Country – the story of how Wales became the first country in the world to legislate in the interest of future generations.

Tom Hardy is a former government education advisor and environmentalist. He is a Co-Founder of MP Watch, a constituency network monitoring climate denial in parliament and MPs’ commitment to net zero.

Dr Nivek Thompson is the founder and director of Deliberately Engaging where she recruits mini-publics for deliberative processes around Australia. She is also the host and producer of Real Democracy Now! and the producer of the Facilitating Public Deliberations podcast with Professor Carson.

Hosted by Philipa Duthie, RSA Oceania Director and host of the ReGeneration Rising podcast: https://www.thersa.org/podcasts/regen...
