Lipolysis : Lipid Metabolism -
-----------------------------------------------
Lipolysis is the metabolic pathway by which triglycerides, stored in adipose tissue, are broken down into free fatty acids and glycerol. This process is essential during fasting, exercise, or energy-demanding situations where glucose availability is low.

Hormones like adrenaline, norepinephrine, and glucagon activate hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), the key enzyme responsible for initiating lipolysis 🧬

🔥. These free fatty acids are then transported to the liver and muscles, where they undergo beta-oxidation to produce ATP, the energy currency of cells. Insulin, on the other hand, inhibits lipolysis, promoting fat storage instead.

Understanding lipolysis is crucial for managing metabolic disorders like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, as it highlights the balance between fat storage and energy mobilization.
