This post was inspired by a recent story shared by Dan Povenmire (on Instagram) about how his holidays look different this year.

This time last year, I felt similarly to Dan because of a loss in my own life of my job and several close friends. Everything felt different that it had always been for the holidays, and it was disorienting and heartbreaking for our family. But like the guests who were sitting in those dark boats in the Pirates of the Caribbean, I decided to make the most of what life handed me. They chose to make their own “ride” together in the dark, and I guarantee that ride was more memorable because of the light they found in a dark place.

If you’re facing a holiday season that looks different than in years past, don’t forget that you have permission to sing in the dark and make the most of what you have now. If singing feels impossible, find a friend who is not afraid to lead you in the chorus and remind you of the words you’re still capable of singing, even if they are in another key 🎶

Recalling the blackout and the evacuation of Pirates of the Caribbean, she said, “The guests were amazingly calm, nobody freaking out at all. In fact, it seemed like they were considering it an adventure. I could hear them loudly singing in the dark, ”Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirates life for me“
