Using a rewritten and expanded version of "Great Southern Land" as the composition's centrepiece, Davies called upon a number of musician-composers to develop the larger work "The Ghost of Time."

The composition was done just before the midnight fireworks.
This was on Millennium Live on New Year's Eve 1999 on the Nine Network.
