1. E. A. Patty- Music Teacher and organized the first stage band (1920s).

2. J. O. B. Mosley- Organized the first marching band at SU (1930s).

3. T.L. Davis- Began Pageantry Drill Concept with the band (1948-1964).

4. L. Freeman-Brought the block letter concept and patterns in motion to the band. He is credited for designing the band's uniform still worn today (1964 -1969).

5. I. Greggs-Brought the Precision Drill Concept, flash, and world-wide recognition to the band. He added capes to the uniforms and later changed the uniform's overlay to Columbia blue (formerly white).(1969- Dec 31, 2005).

6. L. Jackson- Increased size, refined sound, international travel with the band and securing the honor of the SU band to be ranked #2 in the nation by the NCAA and the only HBCU Band Ranked.
(Jan 1, 2006- July 1, 2014).

7. Nathan B. Haymer (July 1, 2014-2018) Turned the Human Jukebox into a brand by pioneering the HBCU/Corporate sponsorship wave. He also brought HBCU bands from the dvd age to the social media/streaming age. Haymer managed to outfit the entire band with brand new instruments with a partnership with the Conn-Selmer Institute along with transforming the sousaphone section from fiber-brass to all brass. Under his leadership, the SU Band was ranked #1 by ESPN’s The Undefeated.
