Backpatching is a process of identifying the target labels in a goto statement and fill it in one pass. The backpathing can generate code for both the boolean expressions and the control flow statements in one pass. In backpatching all the jump instructions are added in the code without specifying the target and after completing the code all the target labels are get filled. The jump labels are treated as a list and is passed as synthesized attribute. For boolean expressions two synthesized attributes are used: B.truelist and B.falselist. The truelist hold all the true labels and falselist hold all the false labels. Also the control flow statement have one synthesized attribute: S.nextlist, which hold a list of next instruction to be executed.
Three functions are used in backpatching for these list manipulation
1) makelist(i)
2) merge(p1, p2)
3) backpatch(p, i)
