From the movie Foxes 1980 - filming location of the "pipes" scene and details

From the 1980 film, "Foxes". This clip was shot at the far north end of the San Fernando Valley, near the water fall "Cascades" that come from the California Aqueduct.

If you ever wondered where that scene was shot, the location is near the "Jensen Filtration Plant" in Sylmar, CA. Google maps clearly show the landmarks such as pipes and the electrical generator building. Search for "34.318525, -118.49482" in google maps.

Some things have changed of course, and the other pipe they had lunch near is gone. Or at least the one they were walking next to wasn't the big white painted one. Looks like some construction was going on at that time.

I'm not sure where the shot of the train cars passing by is from, the one without the truck in the shot, but it's not from that location, The background scenery is very open and at this location it would show the freeway behind the train, or the electrical facility on the other side.

When they first enter the area they are on one side of the pipe and actually pass by the generator building, then the next time they drive to the building on the other side of the same pipe in the same direction. Good job of making the area look larger.

When they drive the truck across the bridge near the end, that bridge is really a train track bridge! It is a nice shot though, but I don't think that bridge is made for that type of use.

The Sylmar power switching plant is just behind that bridge. That's why you see so many high voltage towers.

We used to ride our bicycles around in that wash when we were kids, we were careful to make sure no one saw us. This was a fenced in area, so the movie crew gained special access. So this was not a location real high school kids could just drive into. But we did do stuff like was shown in the movie, just in different locations and ways.

The movie starred Jodie Foster, Cherie Currie, Scott Baio and others. A related movie would be "Runaways", almost the same period in time. Places are Van Nuys, Sylmar, San Fernando, Granada Hills, Northridge, 210, 5, freeway. Reference:
