How To Measure Fetal Abdominal Circumference (AC) On Ultrasound | Fetal Biometry | Obstetric USG

- Identify key landmarks such as the fetal spine and stomach. The ideal section for measurement is where the umbilical vein enters the liver and the stomach is visible.
- The transverse view of the fetal abdomen should be circular or slightly oval.
Ensure the spine is in a neutral position. The section should include the stomach, the portal sinus, and the umbilical vein.
- Place calipers at the outer edge of the skin line, not including any limbs.
Measure the diameter from one outer edge to the other, ensuring a horizontal line (perpendicular to the spine). Measure the anterior-posterior diameter in the same manner. The intersection of these diameters should be at the level of the umbilical vein.
- It's often recommended to take multiple measurements and use the average for the most accurate estimation.
Record the measurements.
Compare the measurements to standard growth charts to assess if the fetus is within the normal range for its gestational age.
