The new Skoda Superb will be an alternative to family-friendly cars like the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat. As such, you can expect prices to start at around £23,000. The car will go on sale in September.

The new Skoda Superb gets a number of exterior styling tweaks when compared with the current model. To bring the new car in line with the rest of the Skoda range, it has a flatter and wider grille with chrome accents. The headlights are thinner and sleeker, too. Beneath the number plate, the fog lights have undergone a similar transformation and – on the top-spec L&K trim – are connected by a sliver of chrome trim. The 2019 Superb also has a new front bumper, making the car up to 8mm longer than the outgoing model.

At the rear, the Skoda badge has been replaced with simple “SKODA” block lettering. Plus, another thin line of chrome has been added to the L&K version, connecting the LED taillights.

The new Skoda Superb adds a number of driver convenience and assistance systems over the current model. Paramount among these is the car’s Predictive Cruise Control. This feature uses images from a windscreen-mounted camera and data from the satnav to predict upcoming bends and changes in the speed limit. It will then adjust the car’s speed accordingly – entirely automatically.

Also included is an upgraded Emergency Assistance functionality. If you’re on the motorway, this system will be able to automatically and safely move the car into the hard shoulder. Other helpful features will be lane-keeping and -changing assistance, blind spot assist, wireless phone charging, keyless entry and start, automatic emergency braking and parking assistance.

The new Skoda Superb marks the brand’s first usage of Matrix LED front lights. This setup ensures that, when needed, the car’s high beams are on at all times, but will never dazzle oncoming drivers. The camera in the windscreen can detect cars in the opposite lane and will adjust the lights accordingly.

The top-of-the-range L&K version of the upcoming Superb has a number of extra, exclusive features. These include 18-inch Propus Aero alloy wheels and Dynamic Chassis Control. This system – already integrated into the Volkswagen Golf – lets you choose between Normal, Sport and Comfort driving modes, altering the feel of the suspension and steering depending on your wants.

Optional extras for the new Skoda Superb include 18- and 19-inch wheels, as well as Crystal Black and Race Blue paint jobs.

The interior of the new Skoda Superb has a number of aesthetic differences to the outgoing version’s. There are new, decorative trims and highlights on the centre console, dashboard, instrument panel and doors. Seats are available in leather and Alcantara, with new covers on some of the higher-range cars, and have colour-contrast stitching. Storage compartments like the glovebox are illuminated.

Identical to the outgoing car, the boot of the 2019 Skoda Superb saloon is 625 litres. This will expand to 1,760 litres if you fold down the rear seats.

On the range-topping L&K trim, ventilated front seats with massage functions will be optional extras. So too will be an Alcantara roof lining.

There are three different infotainment setups available for the new Skoda Superb range. The first is the 8.0-inch Bolero screen, which has smartphone mirroring and a wifi hotspot but no built-in satnav. The other two screens – the 8.0-inch Amundsen and 9.2-inch Columbus – have everything the base-level infotainment has, with satnav added in, while the latter also includes a DVD player and hard drive. A Virtual Cockpit display is an optional extra.

The new Skoda Superb has three petrol engines and three diesel engines to choose from. Starting the petrol range is a 1.5-litre, 150hp unit, available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox. Thereafter will be two 2.0-litre engines: one with a 190hp output and the other with 272hp and all-wheel drive. Both of these options will have a seven-speed auto gearbox.

The diesels start with a 1.6-litre, 120hp engine, which will have a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Then comes the 2.0-litre, 150hp unit, with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. Finally, there will be the 2.0-litre, 190hp diesel engine. This shall have a seven-speed auto gearbox as standard, while all-wheel drive will be an optional extra.
