Continuous heavy rainfall has put North Bengal on high alert as Bhutan’s Tala Dam faces rising water pressure. The Bhutanese government has officially cautioned the West Bengal administration, warning that if the dam overflows, large areas including Dooars, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri could be affected.

Several districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar have recorded over 300mm of rainfall, causing flooding and landslides. The state government has deployed NDRF and SDRF teams for rescue operations, relocating residents and tourists from riverside areas to safer zones.

Meteorological reports confirm a Red Alert for the next 24 hours with the possibility of continued rainfall. Authorities are urging citizens to stay indoors and avoid riversides as precautionary measures.
