The Ho tribe is an ethnic group of India concentrated in the state of Jharkhand and Orissa. The Ho people form around 10.5% of the total population of the Scheduled Tribes of Jharkhand. Along with Ho, Jharkhand comprises other tribes like Santhal, Munda, Kharia, Oraon, and Birhor. Ho, the population also extends to adjacent areas in the neighbouring states of West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Orissa. The Ho tribe have a lifestyle and philosophy of their own. They have their own birth and wedding ceremonies, and death rites. The Ho people believe in the existence of the soul and reincarnation. After the death of a person, they invite the spirit of the dead into their place of worship which is called Aading (आदिंग). This place is an extension of their kitchen.
