On Aug. 30, 2025, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Habra, California, hosted “Theological Implications of Alien Life: A Symposium.” The event, moderated by pastor Fr. William Goldin of the Diocese of Orange, sought to address the Catholic Church’s position on strange occurrences (such as the so-called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAP) and how Catholic theology might help us understand such phenomena. The featured speakers were: Dr. Paul Thigpen, PhD, theologian and journalist; Fr. Thomas Davenport, O.P., PhD, from the faculty of philosophy at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome; and Dr. Tikhon A. Pino, PhD, director of the Pappas Patristic Institute in Massachusetts.

In addition to a lively discussion, the event also featured dinner, alien-themed cocktails and a tinfoil hat competition.
