Welcome back, adventurers, to Part 2 of our Kenai Fjords escapade! We're changing up the game as we take a more intimate look at the park via Sea Kayaking!
In case you missed Part 1, let me catch you up: Cait, yours truly, Megan, and Laura ventured into the trail system of Kenai Fjords National Park, discovering Exit Glacier and its impressive wash.
When we last left you we prepared a late dinner and snagged a precious few hours of sleep. THIS time we were up with the EARLY Alaskan sunrise over Resurrection Bay. We weren't going to miss a second of this adventure! With the sun stretching its rays across the horizon, we kicked off the second leg of our journey.
This time we were diving deep into the heart of Kenai Fjords, ready to uncover its hidden gems up close and personal. Wildlife encounters that'll give you goosebumps, rugged coastlines that'll leave you breathless, waterfalls that'll make you believe in magic, and oh, the awe-inspiring Aialik Glacier, putting on a show with its thunderous calving and dramatic ice formations – it was having one heck of an active day!
We spent a whopping 15 hours immersed in this natural wonderland, covering an astonishing 16 miles as we paddled our way around the mesmerizing Aialik Bay. But guess what? We weren't alone on this incredible journey. Huge shoutout to our expert guides who didn't just guide us – they transformed the experience into an adventure of a lifetime. Their informative insights and captivating stories kept us hooked every step of the way.
But wait, there's more! Brace yourselves for a surprise that had even us seasoned adventurers gaping in awe. We were treated to a rare and mind-blowing spectacle: humpback whales bubble feeding. This mesmerizing form of community feeding is a sight to behold, only seen in a handful of spots around the globe. And guess what? We got a front-row seat to this nature's masterpiece, reminding us of the sheer magnificence of the place we call home.
So fasten your life vests and get ready for a semi-wild adventure of a lifetime. It's time to dive back into Kenai Fjords National Park.
