Automated Fiber Placement of helicopter sideshells

Описание к видео Automated Fiber Placement of helicopter sideshells

Automated Fiber Placement enables highly-automated manufacturing of large scale, geometrically complex parts from carbon fiber reinforced plastics. The sideshell demonstrator was realized on the Coriolis C1 AFP machine at Fraunhofer IGCV in Augsburg, Germany. It will be assembled in the airframe of the RACER highspeed helicopter demonstrator, which is developed within the CleanSky2 research program.
In close collaboration with international partners, Fraunhofer developed an innovative manufacturing process for complexly shaped shell parts made from carbon fiber reinforced plastics and honeycomb sandwich cores, based on the Automated Fiber Placement layup process. The assessment of the ecological and economical viability of the developed process yielded saving potentials compared to conventional hand layup.
