Key Takeaways: Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6.18
1. Defining a Yogi: Disciplined Mind and Transcendental Situation:
A true yogi is identified by their disciplined mental activities (vi niyatam chittam) and their fixed situation in transcendence (atmanye vavatishthate), meaning they are devoid of all material desires (nishpraha sarvakame bhyaha). Such a person is said to be well-established in yoga (yukta ityuchate tada). The "eva" (eva shabdham) in verses like maam eva ye prapadya or atmaratir eva syad is crucial, signifying exclusivity. Spiritual life is exclusive, focusing on one truth, unlike material life, which is diversified into many pursuits.

2. Cessation of Material Desires, Especially Sex:
A yogi's activities are distinguished from an ordinary person's by their characteristic cessation from all kinds of material desires, of which sex is the chief (of which sex is the chief). This point is exemplified by the devotion of King Ambarish Maharaj, who achieved such fixedness in yoga.

3. The Propensity to Lord Over: The Root of Mental Distraction:
Upon investigating our own mindsets, we often realize that the innermost desire (innermost desire) is to lord over ("I must become better than my colleague," "I must be the best Bhagavad Gita speaker," "my child must be the best"). This strong "sense of I and mine" fuels the desire to be the lord. When one lacks the power to be the lord directly, they outsource this tendency to something they possess (e.g., sending children to competitions to fulfill unachieved aspirations). This fundamental desire to lord it over everything is the foundational aspect responsible for the mind's distraction.

4. Distraction as an Investigation to Lord Over:
A devotee's deeper understanding of distraction is that the mind is constantly "investigating" where it can be the lord ("I couldn't be the lord here... now where can I be the lord?"). This anxiety and agitation of the mind stem from its eagerness to establish its dominion in some space. When one's consciousness recedes and withdraws from this tendency to be the lord, agreeing instead to be the servant of Krishna, then there is no reason to be anxious.

5. Oneness in Purpose: Serving the Lord:
When the desire to lord over is given up, every object and person is seen as serving only one purpose: to serve the Lord. There is no longer a difference between a gold coin and a stone if they are seen in relation to the Lord. We do not see the world or people as they are, but through the lens of our own confused purpose to derive something from them. A person consumed by the useless purpose of lording over this world remains perpetually confused and in anxiety due to obstacles and competition.

6. Realizing the Material World's Limited Purpose and Cultivating Devotion:
A person advances in Krishna consciousness when they realize that the material world's diversity is fundamentally related to their own false ego's desire to lord over it. Just as one only needs to know basic facts about a distant country (like Zimbabwe) because they have no personal purpose there, similarly, for the spiritual aspirant, it suffices to know that the material world is merely "matter" whose only purpose is to serve the Lord. When this understanding is realized, and the tendency to be the lord is abandoned, the consciousness automatically becomes regulated (viniyatam chittam). The goal is to always be fixed in the purpose of serving the spiritual master and the Lord, understanding that any other pursuit is illusory and serves no true purpose. The only kama (desire) should be Krishna kama (desire for Krishna).
