Pre-Dawn Snow Walk to Amanohashidate on Sea of Japan Coast [4K]

We start this morning's walk about an hour before sunrise in heavy snow. We walk through a small shrine with night lights, traditional Japanese houses in a quiet village, and finally to Amanohashidate, a snow-covered trail on a sandbar lined with beautiful pine trees. The sandbar is about 3km long and 90m wide, making a walking trail that divides the Sea of Japan and the Asoumi Sea, which is basically a bay. Amanohashidate is one of Japan's 3 Scenic Views (日本三景 | Nihon Sankei), the other two being Matsushima in Miyagi, and Ikutsushima in Hiroshima.

Throughout the walk there are umbrella on snow sounds, the squish of boots on snow, and sniffing from a cold camera operator (sorry), other than that it is very quiet. We are walking before dawn, so there are few people out and about, understandable considering the driving snow. At times, especially on the sandbar, the wind was so strong I had to hold the umbrella sideways in an attempt to block the wind blown salt spray from the sea damaging my camera.

The wind was so strong in fact that I decided to take a break and end the walk in the middle of Amanohashidate. Luckily the wind calmed just before sunrise so I continued to walk another hour and a half. I hope you enjoy the walk as much as I did!
