The Swifts (Russian: Стрижи, Strizhi) are a Soviet and later Russian aerobatic performance demonstrator team connected with the Russian Air Force. The MiG-29 is designed by the Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (Российская самолетостроительная корпорация) or RSK MiG. The company are primarily a military aircraft design bureau with the core business being designing fighter aircraft. The head office is in Begovoy District, Northern Administrative Okrug, Moscow. MiG aircraft are the standard warplane make in the Soviet and Russian air forces, and the Soviet Union. The planes have also been exported to the militaries of China, North Korea, and North Vietnam, and form part of the air forces of many Arab nations. The OVT classification refers to the thrust-vectoring engine. There were concerns that defence budgetary cuts would result in the disbanding of both the Swifts (Strizhi) and the Russian Knights after the MAKS 2011 Airshow near Moscow. However, this was refuted by The Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdiukov how disproved news reports that the Russian Knights and Swifts elite aerobatic teams would be disbanded and merged into one. Currently, The Russian Knights and Swifts are based at the Kubinka airfield, 60 kilometers away from Moscow. The pilots of the teams were the first in the Soviet Union to master solo and team jet fighter aerobatics. They first flew over Moscow in flight formation on May 1st 1946.
