Battle of Fredericksburg: A Tactical Disaster

Описание к видео Battle of Fredericksburg: A Tactical Disaster

Coming in at Number 5, The Battle of Fredericksburg - December 11-15, 1862. This battle, which in many respects was a Union debacle, was a tragic example of tactical miscalculation. Union General Ambrose Burnside ordered his forces to launch a direct assault across open ground against well-fortified Confederate positions atop Marye's Heights. Despite the overwhelming odds, Burnside's troops were met with devastating Confederate fire. The result? A staggering loss of around 12,600 Union soldiers compared to the Confederates' 5,300 casualties. Burnside's decision to attack head-on without proper reconnaissance and preparation earns this blunder the fifth spot.
