【Rap Cover】 QUEEN (Kanaria) 【Shir0_Tamaya】

When I decided I wanted to cover QUEEN, I also made the conscious decision to not cover another Kanaria song after this without good reason. Yeah, covering every Kanaria song would actually make me go crazy www

QUEEN is a difficult song, but I had an easier time with it than Envy Baby. It helps that I knew exactly what direction I wanted to go in the moment I decided to cover it, unlike Envy Baby. For the original ad-libs and rap I spent a good deal of time looking at the translated lyrics and leaned into the story I wanted to tell based on how I saw the lyrics. For me, I saw the song being about someone who looked at love with a rose filter, and was confident in her own image (hence, being a Queen), but quickly realized the darker side of it. Being thrown away and then being chained to her emotions, she uses her uglier emotions as a defense to keep herself from getting hurt, refusing to admit defeat even though she’s completely lost. The fact that in the original art the character wears this collar felt symbolic of that, and the lyrics mention this “sign of defeat.”
