Thorns and Thunderstorms - A 23 Mile Solo Adventure in the Great Smoky Mountains

While camping at Elkmont Campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, I decided to take the opportunity to go for a long run/hike to work on my Smoky Mountains 900 Miler Challenge. From Elkmont I took Jake's Creek Trail and Cucumber Gap Trail to Little River Trail, which I took all the way to the campsite at the end, before backtracking and taking Rough Creek Trail to Sugarland Mountain Trail. It was along this ridge I ran into problems. This trail had some (unknown to me) damage, and was barely a trail in places. It was also incredibly over grown with thorny plants, and oh yeah, a thunderstorm passed over me while I had essentially no cover. It's a bit a of shame I caught the storm when I did, that area of the trail would've had the best views of the day.
