The IRS has recovered over $1 billion from fraudulent Employee Retention Credit (ERC) claims through rigorous enforcement since September 2023.

Key recovery efforts include:
Voluntary Disclosure Program: $225 million recovered by encouraging taxpayers to rectify improperly claimed ERC amounts.
Withdrawal Program: $250 million saved by allowing taxpayers to withdraw previously submitted claims voluntarily.
Identification of Improper Claims: $570 million recovered through meticulous claim reviews.

The IRS is also targeting "promoter investigations" to address entities misleading businesses into falsely claiming ERC. With 386 criminal cases ongoing and $3 billion in additional fraudulent transactions identified, the IRS remains committed to protecting public funds and maintaining the integrity of the tax system.
