Fire on Board: Ventilation and Flow Path Management

Assisted ventilation methods may employ fans or water streams to forcefully remove smoke and gases from confined spaces while introducing fresh air.
One essential technique for onboard ships is utilizing the vessel's maneuverability to influence the flow of smoke and burn gases. By strategically turning the ship, we can divert the flow path away from vulnerable areas and establish a safe route for firefighting teams.
It's important to note that proper ventilation measures should be taken when opening doors to burning compartments. This helps prevent a dangerous bi-directional flow path where burn gases and steam can rapidly move towards firefighters at high speed and pressure.
