On Wednesday, a gunman climbed onto the roof of an apartment building in Dallas and opened fire on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office off North Stemmons Freeway. Bullets ripped through a secured entryway, striking three detainees in a van. One died at the scene, while two were rushed to hospital in critical condition. The shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, later died of a self-inflicted wound. Authorities noted that some of the bullets were etched with “ANTI-ICE,” signaling the attack was targeted. The FBI called it “an act of targeted violence,” and Homeland Security confirmed ICE was the intended target. This marks the deadliest assault on an ICE facility in Texas this year, following previous threats and bomb scares. The shooting underscores how political tensions over immigration enforcement and ICE’s role in raids and family separations have spilled into deadly violence.
