Описание к видео Growing Midyim Berry in Pots | Native Australian Fruit

G'day everyone! I'm back to tackle my ongoing battle with the elusive Midyim Berry plant, which seems to thrive on my frustration. Today, I'm trying a new approach by adding nutrient-rich "organic fertilizer" and fresh "soil" to its pot, hoping to finally keep this plant alive. Join me as I share some "gardening" "garden ideas" and attempt to cultivate this stubborn but delicious fruit using my tried and true "organic gardening" methods.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and then try a fourth time because you’re a stubborn Aussie gardener with a penchant for self-sufficiency. In this video, we are planting a Midyim Berry (Austromyrtus dulcis)—again! This native Australian superfruit has become my horticultural nemesis; I’ve sent three or four to the great compost heap in the sky, and frankly, it’s getting a bit personal.

However, one solitary survivor in the patch is going great guns, and we can finally see those tiny, speckled Midyim fruit forming. These berries are a retirement garden must-have, tasting like a delightful mashup of sweet blueberry and spicy cinnamon. This time, I’m not leaving it to fate. I’m hacking the potting mix for success, using a well-draining succulent mix at the base to prevent wet feet and a native-specific potting mix at the top, fortified with a few secret "Curmudgeon" additives.

In This Episode of Horticultural Hubris:
The Midyim Mystery: Why is this hardy Australian native so difficult to please? We look at its origin in the coastal heaths of NSW and Queensland and why it's perfect for a low-maintenance, edible landscape (once it decides to live).

The Taste Test (In Theory): Describing the unique, melt-in-your-mouth texture and that famous eucalypt-blueberry flavour profile.

The Goldilocks Soil Strategy: A step-by-step guide to my drainage-first potting method. We’re using a gritty succulent base to ensure the roots don’t drown, topped with a low-phosphorus native mix to keep it happy.

Lessons from a Survivor: Looking at the one plant that actually made it and what it’s telling us about surviving the Perth climate.

Why Midyim Berries?
For those of us heading into retirement or looking to boost our self-sufficiency on a budget, Midyims are the ultimate "lazy" snack—if you can get them past the seedling stage. They are shade-tolerant, pest-resistant, and look great in a pot or as a hedge.
