ILCA delegates had a very long day at the World Health Assembly meeting in Geneva on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, as the meeting was extended late into the night. Two of the agenda items covered were universal health coverage (UHC) and prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and ILCA's delegate Katie Pereira-Kotze, PhD delivered a statement identifying the importance of including skilled lactation care in UHC and how supporting breastfeeding will reduce NCDs. These statements must be short (less than one minute) and in common, easy-to-understand language, as they are simultaneously translated into the 6 official UN languages for the global audience.
