Choreographer Brendan Fernandes on How Dance Converges with Sculpture at the Barnes Foundation

Описание к видео Choreographer Brendan Fernandes on How Dance Converges with Sculpture at the Barnes Foundation

The ‪@BarnesFoundation‬’s "William Edmondson: A Monumental Vision" retrospective recontextualizes the life of the Black American artist and the sculptures he carved from limestone in the early 20th century.

For the exhibition, choreographer Branden Fernandes developed a dance piece, "Returning to Before," to be performed around and in conversation with these sculptures, imbuing an otherwise static exhibition with movement.

In this interview, Fernandes and exhibition co-curator James Claiborne discuss how dance intersects with the design of the exhibition and visitor experience for our series #QuestionsOfPractice.

Filmed on July 14, 2023.
