sing Google Earth satellite imagery, we follow the track bed of the former railway from Melton Mowbray Town (Leics) to Bourne (Lincs). The route was owned by the Midland Railway and operated by Midland and Great Northern Joint railway. Intermediate Stations were Saxby, Edmondthorpe & Wymondham, South Witham and Castle Bytham. There was a tunnel at Toft which is still accessible.
The section from Melton to Saxby was opened in 1848 as part of the Midland Railway's Syston to Peterborough line, which remains in use. The remainder of the route opened in 1894 and closed in 1959.
Satellite imagery is dated 30/5/2021 and 31/7/2020.
