The Mudgee Historical Society has received a boost, thanks to a $20,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnerships program.

The grant will be used to build an accessible toilet at the Mudgee museum, to complement the male and female toilets already on site.

The museum really is a gem of the Mudgee tourist trail, and given the number of visiting bus groups they normally have with people of varying ages and abilities, this type of accessible toilet is a must.

Under the current restrictions due to COVID-19 the museum is not operating, but I’m hoping this project will start soon, and can be up and running by the time visitors are welcomed back.

Providing grants like this is one of the ways I’m hoping to boost our regional communities and give local groups something to look forward to while our lives are being impacted in so many ways at the moment.

President of the Mudgee Historical Society Barry Wells said the grant is an important step forward for the museum.

“This new accessible toilet will make things a lot easier for many of our visitors, which includes quite a few seniors’ bus groups and also people from the nursing homes.

“The project has all been approved, we have a DA done with council, and we are now all ready to go with the builders,” he said.
