Donald Trump is holding a news conference Thursday at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida home, marking his first public appearance since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee and selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Thursday’s event is taking place at 2 p.m. ET after the Republican presidential candidate made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, adding that he is eager to debate Harris.

Trump teased an announcement about the presidential debate earlier this week after pulling out of an ABC News debate scheduled for Sept. 10, the Associated Press reported.

The former president told the AP he preferred Fox News to sponsor the debate, but on Wednesday was showing willingness to reconsider ABC.

Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, has criticized Harris for not holding a news conference or conducting interviews since President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential election race.

Harris selected Walz to be her running mate and the duo made their first appearance together in Philadelphia at an evening rally on August 6.
