A classic slice of ’80s action-comedy chaos starring Dudley Moore and Eddie Murphy.

What makes Best Defense unique is that it’s basically two movies in one and the main characters never even meet.

One storyline follows a nervous engineer trying to design a cutting-edge gyroscope for tanks (using stolen plans from a murdered rival), while the other follows a tank commander who accidentally drives himself straight into a war zone thanks to a very badly designed tank.

Trivia:

The movie was originally meant to be a Dudley Moore solo film but early test screenings went so badly that the studio rushed to add Eddie Murphy who was at the height of his popularity. His scenes were filmed later and mostly separately.

The film features Iraq invading Kuwait a plot point that became real six years later.

Footage of actor David Rasche from this movie helped him land the lead role in the cult TV series Sledge Hammer!
