Welcome to Episode 1 in a new series in conjunction with www.hothatches.co.uk

In this episode ("The Pilot") I test drive the Renault Megan Trophy. With pedigree and an impressive specification (including manual gear box) can this car compete with the might VW Golf R?

Contender or Pretender... You decide!

Big THANK YOU to Chris and the team at www.hothatches.co.uk for the opportunity and time.

The original Megane RS had a healthy 222bhp and it was a solid rival to the likes of the Focus ST and Civic Type R – in many ways it offered a raw driving experience that others couldn’t keep up with. 2010 onwards saw a change, the chassis engineers really proved their worth, although interiors weren’t as polished the drive was something to write home about. This reputation is why the latest edition has some pretty big boots to fill! Does it? In a word YES – producing a healthy 296bhp and 296lb/ft of torque, mixed with 4 wheel steer, 5 drive modes, bigger brakes and some serious tyres this beast will hit 62mph in 5.7 seconds and continue to pull to 162mph! You can purchase something faster but it’s all about the drive for Renault.

Stay tuned for plenty more to come...
