Steinway Duo Art Reproducer Louis XV Carved Walnut Art Case Grand Piano

made its actual debut with the

New York Philharmonic Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in 1927.



A ‘Spindle Top’ oil baron and his sister, enroute to a European vacation were seated in the audience that night at Carnegie Hall and were so impressed with the performance of this magnificent instrument, they went to the Steinway showroom the very next morning, asked to meet with Mr. Steinway, bought the actual piano they had seen the night before on the spot and had it shipped directly to their penthouse at the St. James Hotel in Wichita Falls, Texas.



The 1927 Steinway Duo Art Reproducer Louis XV piano is not a player piano. A ‘player piano’ has only one note track on its roll and simply just plays each note with no enhancements. The Duo Art “reproducer” however, has two note tracks. The 1st note track on the paper roll is to key the note, the 2nd track is to exactly “reproduce” (play) the note as the artist actually recorded it.



In the 1960’s this Steinway piano was acquired from an estate executor in Ft. Worth, Texas by famous Dallasite, Olympic Skater Dorothy Franey Langkop. At the time the piano was located it was in an estate of ‘Spindle Top Oil Baron and his Sister’ in there 8,000 sqft. home in Ft. Worth, Texas that was merely used for air conditioned storage of their collection of art, antiques and possessions from their world travels.



In 2015, Dorothy’s son, Gene Langkop commissioned Jack Wyatt RPT owner of Garland Piano and founder of the Jack Wyatt National Piano Technicians Guild Museum in Kansas City, to do a complete and total restoration, restoring all components to new as it came from the Steinway factory. The select American walnut piano casement and carvings were painstakingly stripped and then refinished in the original Nitro Cellulose lacquer as it came originally from the Steinway factory in 1927. During the restoration process it was recommended to Mr. Langkop that the original ‘pneumatic’ reproducer system could be fully restored, however, experienced reproducer service technicians are few and far between, and will be even harder to maintain and service in the future. Mr. Wyatt recommended the removal of the original system and the installation of a ‘state of the art’ ‘PianoDisc‘ digital system with vocal and instrumental accompaniment and with ‘live recording’ capabilities available from PianoDisc. The PianoDisc system is controlled and operated remotely by an IPad Bluetooth connection.



After a 1 year in restoration, this immaculate 1927 Steinway Louis XV was delivered Mr. Langkop to the famous ‘Razzle Dazzle’ stores in New Orleans on December 2, 2015 in time to entertain the Razzle Dazzle patrons and guests for parties and celebrations during the Holiday season.



Please note the beautiful striations, ‘fiddle back’ nuances and warms rich tones of the rare select grade of American Walnut seldom seen even in quality pianos of this class. The matching Janssen duet artist adjustable bench has custom matching legs and is covered in a rich brown leather.
