Search for OPALIZED Petrified WOOD

Hiking in and around Frenchman Coulee is an awesome experience. The area contains beautiful geological features, and one of those is opalized petrified wood.

What is opalized wood? Wood opal is a form of petrified wood which has developed an opalescent sheen or, more rarely, where the wood has been completely replaced by opal. Other names for this opalized sheen-like wood are opalized wood and opalized petrified wood.

Basically, if trees are buried in water, and have not rotted away, and then silica is absorbed by the wood, as it hardens it may opalize the structure of the wood.
