About Dolly's Diner:

The idea for this series came to me while visiting the Amy Winehouse exhibition in London on January 22. While reading through some pages of her private journal from her teenage years, I discovered that she had dreamt of owning a 1950s-style diner, similar to the one in American Graffiti, which she would have called Dolly's Diner. She dreamt of a diner, but she had fame.

My character, Irene, has a somewhat inverted story. She came to Hollywood start anew, with dreams of success, but ended up working as a waitress in a local diner. She soon realises that we are never truly alone on our journey. Her past, demons, self-imposed limitations, and pain all come along for the ride. Before long, she finds herself right back at square one, trapped in a life she doesn’t want. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Dolly's Diner also speaks out against the prevalence of sexual abuse, which is widely known in the film industry, but also in many other spheres.

About the artist:

Elisa Miller is an award-winning French fine art photographer based in London.

Her interest in vintage aesthetics opens a window to a retro world: light, colour and elaborate scenarios are used to explore the female psyche through a cinematic lens. Miller’s work examines identity, self-perception, the effects of societal pressure on women and images behind the mask.
