Although Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians were billed as "the sweetest music this side as heaven," they could play hot jazz when called for as this recording clearly demonstrates. This recording even includes a scat chorus featuring Carmen Lombardo and hot solos by Fred Kreitzer on piano and John Dillon on trombone.

"The Cannon Ball" was composed by Chicagoan, Joseph Charles Northrup and first published in 1905 as a "characteristic two-step" but for more than a century it has been known as one of the most enduring piano rags of all time as the "Cannonball Rag." In more recent years it has been adapted by many country music artists, most notably guitar pickers Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Duane Eddy.
