So how does the BG-Mosquitaire work?

The trap imitates the manner in which odors are presented by a human body. As visualized here, odors are released slowly and move upward in a plume because of our body heat. Biogents has developed and patented an artificial human scent, the BG-Sweetscent. This scent, which is especially attractive to tiger mosquitoes, is dispersed by the trap in a plume that closely resembles that produced by a human. The BG-Sweetscent is placed into the trap and remains effective for up to two months. The clever thing, and patented too: One single fan both disperses the BG-Sweetscent and catches the mosquitoes. Additionally, the black funnel centered in a white surrounding is visually attractive. Approaching mosquitoes are lured closer by these cues and end up in a catch bag where they dehydrate. Beneficial insects like bees or butterflies are not attracted by the trap.
