In this video we are going over the ever so popular coaches "go to" instruction, "keep your head down. " Keep your head down, is one of the most used terms and baseball when it comes to hitting.

Keeping your head down is crucially important because your head contains you're most powerful weapons as a hitter, your eyes.

The biggest problem that hitters have with this is that they try to keep their head down but can't seem to control their head movement.

One of the biggest reasons this happens is because of hitters burying their hands behind their body in the loading process. This puts the body in between the hands and the ball and forces the hitter to over rotate which in many cases causes the header to pull his head out.

And the most common culprit of why hitters bury their hands is because they're trying to swing too hard. Now swinging hard is definitely part of the game, yet it needs to be done under control, especially with the head and eyes. By controlling her head and eyes we give ourselves the best chance for pure contact.

And the reason why it's hard to control the head when we do this is that the knack contains very powerful muscles that turn the head. And when we or hitting our goal is to hit the ball as hard as possible. So a chain of events occurs in our brain when we tell our brain we want to hit the ball hard.

What happens is our body knows it has to move fast and it has to rotate in order to achieve hitting the ball hard. The brain is very literal and will react as such by trying to employ the strongest rotational muscles so that I can move the fastest. As a result if we do not train our head to disconnect from the body, we will then attempt to use the head and Rotational muscles in the neck as a source for power and pull out head out.

We will then give you a series of Progressive drills to teach you how to disconnect your head from your baseball swing.

The drills are made up of three stages where you take 50 swings at 25%, 50%, 75% and game speed at each stage. So it will be 200 swings for stage and 600 swings total. Every swing the head should be monitored that it is staying nice and still all the way through contact. Also each stage will be done without hitting any baseballs so that you can focus on learning how to disconnect your head from your sewing.

The first drill will be done without a bat and we will take ghost swings working our way from slow at 25% and progressively all the way up to 100% swings.

The next progression we will use a light bat, Wiffleball bat, or turn our game bat over and grab it by the barrel. We will then take 50 swings with the light bat at each progression.

And the final for progression will consist of using our game bat at each of the four stages 25%, 50%, 75%, and game speed.

After completing all three stages you're ready to go back to T work and crush some baseballs with fantastic contact because you know our controlling your head and controlling your eyes.

I look forward to helping you improve your baseball in the future!
