Minesing Wetlands

Perfect for Spring paddling, as there are over 15,000 acres of wetlands, just West of Barrie. The average time to complete the paddle would take roughly 4 to 5 hours and includes 2 portages.

The course consists of following the Nottawasaga River, which flows almost directly through the middle of the wetlands.

It is best to drop in for a canoe, just North of Angus on the East side of the bridge at Highway #90. For the entire route, you will end at Edenvale Conservation Authority by the bridge on the West side of Highway #26.

The area seems to replicate the Florida Everglades or Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp.

The Minesing Wetlands holds the largest Heron rockery in Southern Ontario. There are over 206 species of birds and 23 species of mammals. As well over 400 species of plants that range from Carolinian species to vegetation; more commonly found in the Hudson Bay Lowlands.
