Washington State Attorney Ryan Witt discusses all the things that you will need to say, and won't need to say, at your arraignment in your criminal case.

At your criminal arraignment, you have your 5th Amendment Right To Remain Silent. The Judges protect your right very closely. They will never ask you to:

Make an excuse about what happened
Narrate the event / tell a story

There is no public speaking experience required, and you will not have to think on your feet. All the substantive speaking will be done by your attorney. The Judges wouldn't even allow you to talk if you wanted to.

The types of short phrases you will be saying are "Yes, your Honor" and "No, you Honor". And that's about it. If you can practice those two phases you will be golden.
