The sectors of coastal development and blue economy are increasingly relevant for Kenya. The economy based on the ocean provides in fact social and economic benefits both to the current and to the future generations; it restores, protects and preserves the diversity, productivity and resilience of marine ecosystems and relies on clean technologies and renewable energies.

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (Aics) in Kenya works alongside the local authorities to enhance the blue economy and coastal development with initiatives characterized by the active involvement of the local communities, the collaboration with the Italian excellencies in the private sector, the partnership with the European Union and with the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (CIHEAM Bari), highly specialized in the sectors of agriculture, coastal management and fishing.

Go Blue is the Program for the development of Kenya coastal counties financed by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Government of Kenya: it is realized by Aics together with the cooperation agencies from Germany, Portugal, France, two United Nations agencies (UN Habitat and UNEP) and with the Jumuiya Ya Kaunti Za Pwani Secretariat - JKP, the economic bloc of Kenya coastal counties.
The Italian component of the Program corresponds to a European investment of 4.75 MEUR for a duration of four years (2021 - 2024); it is the first 'delegated cooperation' Program implemented by the Italian Cooperation in the country.

Share Blue, concluded in 2021, was realized by CIHEAM of Bari with the aim of contributing to the development of the blue economy in Kenya coastal area, promoting the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources and data analysis related to the fishery value chain.
