Weather update (December 4, 11AM): Wind signal no. 1 is up in eight provinces after the low pressure area east of Eastern Visayas developed into tropical depression Wilma Thursday morning.

The areas under signal no. 1 are:
Northern Samar
Eastern Samar
Samar
Biliran
Leyte
Southern Leyte
Surigao del Norte
Dinagat Islands

More areas will be added as Wilma moves closer to land.

Strong winds with minor to minimal impacts will be felt in these localities.

At 10 a.m. Thursday, the tropical depression was located 625 km east of Catarman, Eastern Samar.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph with gustiness up to 55 kph and is moving west southwestward at 20 kph.

Wilma may slightly intensify before making landfall over Dinagat Islands or Eastern Caraga late Friday, December 5, or early Saturday, December 6.

It will cross Visayas as a tropical depression through Monday then traverse northern Palawan late Monday to early Tuesday.

Wilma, along with the shear line, will bring significant rainfall over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao throughout its passage.

Up to intense rains are expected in Bicol, Visayas, and Romblon through Sunday noon.

Widespread and serious flooding and landslides will be expected in many areas.

The public is advised to continue monitoring updates on Wilma and take necessary measures to protect life and property, including heeding evacuation orders from local officials. — Report from Ariel Rojas, ABS-CBN News
