The European Paper Wasp is an invasive alien species in Cape Town.

Normally insecticides and poisons are used to kill them, but poisons ALSO kill chameleons, birds and other animals over a wide area. Insecticides also kill the other insectivorous predators that help control our same wasp problem, as well as the bees, and our other indigenous insect species!

Solution: Spray the wasps with cooking oil!

It kills the wasps, as quickly as insecticides. It's also targeted and environmentally friendly, and leaves all the rest of the ecosystem unharmed (though maybe put newspaper down first, so the oil doesn't get on walls. It takes time to scrub vegetable oil off bricks with hot water and soap! Otherwise use Eucalyptus oil, which evaporates afterwards, leaving no marks.)
Any kind of oil works - even cheap stuff. (The viscosity of the oil blocks the insects' tracheal system and kills them in less than a minute) You can use a spray-bottle like the guy in the video who is shooting the flying wasps out of the air, or you could try a kid's water pistol even.
It is important that you WET the wasp with the oil though. A light spray only knocks the wasp out of the air, but you then need to spray it WET, for the method to work.
The wasp nests are papery and porous. So you need to spray the nests too. The oils will infuse the nest and kill the eggs/larvae.

Please promote this method, rather than insecticides.
If you DO need to kill harmful insect infestations, then this method is better for the environment, better for other species, and maybe it could even be fun, if you put the oil in a water pistol?
