There was a battle royal for a chance at the World Title in July 2004. At the end, it was just Randy Orton and Chris Jericho. Randy hit Jericho with an RKO, Jericho was still holding on and Randy kicked him in the face to eliminate him and win the match. There was some tension between Randy and Triple H when Randy wished him luck in his next match. Triple H faced Chris Benoit for the World Title in a sixty minute iron man match. Benoit pinned Triple H in the last seconds of the match to make it four three and retain the title. Next week, Randy, Ric Flair and Batista faced Chris Jericho, Benoit and Edge. At the end, Benoit caught Flair in a sharpshooter and Randy hit him with an RKO to win the match. A week later, Triple H and Randy teamed up to face Benoit and Eugene, but Eugene was not present and Benoit will take on them alone. At the end, Benoit caught Randy in the crossface, Flair attacked him and it ended in a DQ. At Summerslam, Randy faced Benoit for the title. At the end, Randy countered Benoit’s diving headbutt. Randy went for the pin, Benoit caught him in the crossface and Randy managed to counter him. Randy countered Benoit and hit him with the RKO to pin him and to become the youngest world champion.
